What
is the denomination of
the sermons' author? The author is an Episcopal priest.
Are the sermons
generic
enough that they will work for any Christian denomination?
That is a
question that only you can answer about your own parish. The sermons
are based on a theology of grace through the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
They follow the creedal doctrine of the Nicene
and Apostles' Creeds. They acknowledge that salvation is by grace,
through faith. The author operates from a belief that all persons
baptized into the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ are members
of the Body of Christ and heirs in his Eternal Kingdom. He believes,
strongly, that Christ Jesus died for all and, therefore, is inclusive
in his thinking.
How do I get the
sermons and
what if I don't like it after I download it? You can preview the sermon
for the coming Sunday without charge. You may also review sermons
written for
earlier Sundays in the current church year. These sermons are in
a format that cannot be copied, printed or edited. You may
subscribe to sermons that can be copied, printed and edited for $7.95
USD per month. You may cancel your subscription at any
time. Subscribers are able to download the coming Sunday sermon,
as well as others for the same Sunday and church year from previous
years. In most cases, at least two previous-year sermons are
available, and the number grows with each three-year cycle.
Are sermons also
written for
feast days that do not occur on a Sunday? Yes. You will find
sermons for Christmas, the Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Maundy (Holy)
Thursday, Good Friday and Thanksgiving. Occasionally
we will post sermons for other occasions.
Are
all sermons based on the Revised Common Lectionary? All
sermons are now being written based on the RCL. Some older
sermons were based on the Episcopal BCP Lectionary of the1979 Book of
Common Prayer (BCP). Unless annotated, those older sermons have
been edited to ensure compliance with the RCL.
When you say the sermons are in the
Protestant liturgical tradition, what do you mean?
The sermons were written with
the Episcopal and Lutheran Eucharist in mind, which is to say that the
sermons are short (10 to 12 minutes), as written. The reason is
that with the rest of the liturgy, the Sunday “worship time” might go
into serious overtime if the preacher got long-winded. If you
want longer sermons, it is easy enough to expand them.
These sermons are all based on the lectionary Gospel reading and tend
to be focused on one major teaching point.
Do these sermons reflect the personal agenda of the author or are they in anyway socially, religiously or politically controverisal? No. The author avoids this type of preaching and the sermons are not likely to be controversial for members of your congregation.
What
happens if I pay to download a
sermon and then disagree with part of it? You are free to edit, in
any way that you wish, any sermon that you have paid for.
Are all the
sermons original
by the Revised Common Lectionary Gospel Sermons™ editor?
Yes.
May I reproduce the sermons I
download? You have the
author's permission to use them without restriction as a preached
sermon. You may also post them, after your own editing, on your
parish's website, if you post your sermons to your website. You
may not publish or use the sermons, in any form or manner, for resale
or profit.
